Principal Dawn Peeples took a team to the 13th Annual Schools to Watch Conference on June 21-24, 2017, in Washington, D.C. where they received the National Schools to Watch Award for Mid-level Education. This is the fourth time Cabot Middle School North has received this award. That means 12 years of continued excellence! The National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform believes that students in middle grades are capable of learning and achieving at high levels. To become a Schools to Watch school, a school must be a high-performing school and considered academically excellent. They must challenge all students to use their minds well, by providing them with strong curriculum, instruction, assessment, support, and the time they need to meet rigorous academic standards. They are also developmentally responsive, socially equitable, and hold high expectations for all. Cabot Middle School North met a strenuous criteria set forth by the National Forum and was designated as a Schools to Watch for the fourth time back in January. CMSN submitted a written application, along with extensive student data, a site visit with a quality assessment team, met structured protocols, and a standardized visitation process. Each school chosen for this award not only met rigorous "process" standards, but also showed significant improvement on student achievement. The CMSN STW Team consisted of Principal Dawn Peeples, Assistant Principals Teri Duncan and Kasey Hill, and teachers Erica Riddle and Frankie Glover. This team presented on the national stage about their R.O.A.R.S. program. The program focuses on a positive school climate and supports all learners, while providing a rich, high-level instructional program. The CMSN STW Team also visited Capitol Hill and met with Senator Rick Crawford from Arkansas. This gave them the opportunity to discuss current issues in today's schools. Congratulations again to Cabot Middle School North on all your outstanding achievements. We are very proud of you!
